Critical Areas Ordinance Update

All Washington cities and counties must adopt a Critical Areas Ordinance to protect the environment and reduce exposure to risks. Port Townsend began updating our Critical Areas Ordinance (CAO) several years ago. We are continuing the update to align with our Comprehensive Plan Periodic Review.

The update reviews best available science to ensure Port Townsend has safe habitats for people, animals, plants, and marine life. The update also engages the public so we know how people currently engage with nature and how we can preserve our city’s drinking water, landscape, and habitats for generations to come.
